Description of Artwork: His paintings and multi-media installations deal with Afro-Cuban imagery.
The Incident: In 1960 he was expelled from San Alejandro Academy of Art and the National Art School in Cubanacan, for political reasons. He got a job as a lithographer where he worked until 1971, when the Congress of Education and Culture led to official exclusion and censorship of many artists. He was fired as a result.
Results of Incident: In 1980 he left Cuba via Mariel to Key West, Florida. He resided in San Francisco, CA until his death in 2010.
