Description of Artwork: "Glass Castle" is a memoir by Jeanette Walls about growing up in poverty. Walls recounts her unusual childhood, deeply dysfunctional parentage and escape from a life in destitution.

The Incident: Parents complained to the McPherson Board of Education to remove "The Glass Castle" due to foul language and "explicit sexual references". They asked that the book be removed from the school's pre-AP English reading list.

Results of Incident: A committee teachers, parents and school officials reviewed the book and rejected the ban unanimously.
