Confronting Bodies: a dean at BGSU's Firelands Campus and the Little Gallery

Dates of Action: March 2009

Location: Little Gallery at Bowling Green State Universitys Firelands campus

Description of Artwork: a metal sculpture colorfully painted depicts a female middle school student, on her knees, performing oral sex on a standing male middle school science teacher, both fully clothed showing no sexual organs.

The Incident: The Little Gallery at Bowling Green State Universitys Firelands campus has been shuttered in a protest of censorship after one of 13 small sculptures was taken from its pedestal by a dean without the gallery directors knowledge. The University has stated that the sculpture was removed from the exhibition because its subject matter was considered inappropriate for children and families that come to campus.

Results of Incident: BGSU students have organized a protest of the censorship of the Parlin exhibition.
