Description of Artwork: Fils Du Peuple, first published in 1937, is the autobiography of Maurice Thorez, Secretary General of the French Communist Party from 1930 until his death in 1964.

The Incident: The work, first published uncensored in the 1937 edition, was censured in the 1954 edition by the removal Marcel Gitton (formerly Administrative Secretary of the French Communist Party who later defected) from a group photo in the book.
