Description of Artwork: Anteriormente habian habido controles no del todo excesivos y algun expediente disciplinario a periodistas demasiado irreverentes con el regimen. (Previously there had not been excessive controls or the disciplining of journalists considered opposed to the regime.)

The Incident: El jueves de la semana anterior al 23 de abril el gobierno habia subido los precios de alimentos y otros articulos de primera necesidad como medicamentos, arroz, leche, aceite. Durante tres dias se produjeron protestas en 30 ciudades diferentes. Estos alzamientos se saldaron con 102 muertos, 400 heridos y 5,000 detenidos. Radio Popular fue cerrada durante los siguientes cinco meses, pues resultaba peligroso que se dotase de informacion no manipulada a la poblacion. Ademas de cerrar Radio Popular, las emisoras estatales estuvieron dos dias seguidos, sin parar un solo minuto, emitiendo sus programas. (On Thursday the week prior to April 23, 1984 the government had raised the prices of food and other necessities such as medicines, rice, milk, oil. For three days there were protests in 30 different cities. These upheavals resulted in 102 deaths, 400 wounded and 5,000 arrested. Popular Radio was closed for the next five months, because it refused to give state propaganda to the population. In addition to closing Radio Popular, state broadcasters spent two days straight without stopping for a minute, releasing their programs.)
