Mike Brown Mural.png

Artist: Will “Kasso” Condry, the Sage Coalition

Year: 2014

Date of Action: 20 October, 2014

Region: North America

Location: Trenton, New Jersey

Subject: Political/Economic/Social Opinion, Racial/Ethnic

Medium: Painting, Public Art

Confronting Bodies: Trenton Downtown Association, Trenton Police

Description of Artwork: The mural is about a 18 year old black man, Mike Brown, who got shot in August 2014, while unarmed, by a police officer. The painting depicted Brown’s face with the caption "Sagging pants … is not probable cause."

The Incident: Condry, the leading artist behind the project, received pressure by the Trenton police to put his mural down, because it was sending the wrong message about community and police relations, but he refused to do so. After that the Trenton Police Department contacted The Trenton Downtown Association and asked them to cover it and so they did.

Results of Incident: Condry and the Sage Coalition's intention with the mural was to create a conversation about racial profiling by police. After Condry made the pressure he received by the police public, the acting police director Ernest Parrey told NBC10 he’s willing to follow Condry’s suggestion and have a conversation.
