Confronting Bodies: HostGator, Astra

Description of Artwork: Vincent Brocki's website is dedicated to featuring his original music, poetry, videos, and blog. One page is dedicated to his wife's digital drawings of nude bodies. The site's host is HostGator, a Texas-based web host provider.

The Incident: When HostGator introduced the implementation of a third-party software program called Astra, several of Virgina Brocki's nude drawings were deleted from the website without warning. HostGator's Acceptable Use Policy does not prohibit nude drawings, yet it was cited in explaining the removal of the content. Mr. and Mrs. Brocki appealed the removal to "escalated support."

Results of Incident: Mr. and Mrs. Brocki have received very vague explanations that the drawings violated HostGator's and Astra's "Terms of Service," but they have not received any clear explanation as to how in particular the drawings violated the terms.
